From Our Kitchen to Yours: The Story of The Little Pepper Tree (TLPT)
Born and bred in sweet T&T—Trinidad & Tobago, the last of the Caribbean islands. What began as a simple love for homegrown flavours soon blossomed into something extraordinary. At first, it was all about crafting traditional Trinbagonian pepper sauces and green seasonings, bringing a taste of home to our little kitchen in Croydon, England. It was all about adding that T&T sweetness to the pot. One year, my partner and I even managed to grow a few hot peppers ourselves; we were so proud of those little pepper trees.
As we shared our chilli creations and the vibrant food cultures of both islands—Trinidad and Tobago—with friends, our kitchen became a bridge between worlds. For some, each taste was a memory—a connection to home, family, friends, and the nostalgia of shared meals. For others, it was a first encounter with the bold, authentic flavours at the heart of our diverse culture. Every dish we shared sparked curiosity and connection, inspiring more people to bring those flavours into their own lives. That growing enthusiasm deepened our passion for cooking and creating for others.
Baking has always held a special place in my heart, but the pandemic unlocked a new passion: macarons. I immersed myself in the intricate art of these delicate treats, blending global techniques with the bold, vibrant flavours of Trinidad & Tobago. Macarons became my canvas—a space where the cultures I grew up with, and those I encountered through travel, could come together in unexpected ways.
This creative exploration gave me the courage to tackle more challenging bakes, like buss up shut and doubles bara. It also fuelled a deeper curiosity: a drive to learn, master, and preserve the recipes of our elders. These traditions, once at risk of being forgotten, became a personal mission to keep alive—for myself and for future generations.
And so, The Little Pepper Tree (TLPT) was born: a celebration of flavours, cultures, traditions and community.
